What it means
↑ Upright
A field of wheat ripens at her feet and a stream falls behind her: growth that comes from tending, not forcing. Whatever is fed and given time is favored here — work, a household, a friendship, your own contentment — so take the first step, then nourish what you want to flourish and let it ripen at its own pace.
↓ Reversed
Growth that has stalled, often because attention keeps wavering between one plan and another, or because care given to everyone else leaves your own ground untended. Nothing here is barren, only neglected. Choose one thing to nurture, and accept help with the rest.
A woman in a richly patterned gown sits at ease in a garden, crowned with twelve stars, one for each month or sign of the zodiac. The heart-shaped shield beside her bears the sign of Venus, for love and beauty, and her scepter is topped with a globe, for her rule over the living world. Waite calls her the fruitful mother of thousands, and wheat, trees and running water all speak of growth that renews itself.
Upright
Fruitfulness, action, initiative, length of days; the unknown, clandestine; also difficulty, doubt, ignorance.
Reversed
Light, truth, the unravelling of involved matters, public rejoicings; according to another reading, vacillation.
