What it means
↑ Upright
Skill, will and the confidence to use them. On his table lie all four suits, set out like game pieces for him to arrange as he chooses, and the card asks you to see your own resources that way. Name the one thing you mean to bring about, then work with what you have instead of waiting for what you lack.
↓ Reversed
The same skill used for show, or left lying unused on the table. Talent with no aim grows restless, and cleverness without candor slides toward sleight of hand. Watch for persuasion that outruns the facts, in others or in yourself, and give your ability one honest task to finish.
A young man in a magician's robe raises a wand to the sky and points to the ground: what is drawn from above is brought down to earth. Over his head floats the infinity sign and around his waist a serpent swallows its own tail, both signs of the endless. The cup, sword, wand and pentacle before him are the four suits, the elements of ordinary life; the roses and lilies are commonly read as desire and purity.
Upright
Skill, diplomacy, address, subtlety; sickness, pain, loss, disaster, snares of enemies; self-confidence, will; the Querent, if male.
Reversed
Physician, Magus, mental disease, disgrace, disquiet.
