What it means
↑ Upright
A trumpet sounds and the figures rise from their coffins with arms lifted, answering it. It is a summons you recognize from within — to take stock of what has been, accept a change of position, and begin again with the past accounted for. Answer it honestly, settle what needs settling, and step into the new place.
↓ Reversed
A call heard and left unanswered. Doubt, or a fear of being judged — often most harshly by yourself — keeps you weighing the matter long after weighing has stopped helping, until deliberation becomes a way of not deciding. Set a point at which you choose, and keep to it.
A great angel blows a trumpet from the clouds, and from it hangs a banner marked with a cross. Below, a man, a woman and a child between them rise from open coffins floating on the water, mountains behind. Waite asks us to see that all of them are as one in wonder, and that the summons is heard and answered from within: something in us sounds a trumpet, and all that is lower rises in response.
Upright
Change of position, renewal, outcome. Another account specifies total loss through lawsuit.
Reversed
Weakness, pusillanimity, simplicity; also deliberation, decision, sentence.
